THIS WEEKEND SEES THE EAGERLY-AWAITED RETURN OF THE THREE CHOIRS FESTIVAL. HAVING CELEBRATED ITS 300TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2015, THE THREE CHOIRS FESTIVAL IS THE LONGEST RUNNING NON-COMPETITIVE CLASSICAL MUSIC FESTIVAL IN THE WORLD. ROTATING BETWEEN THE BEAUTIFUL ENGLISH CATHEDRAL CITIES OF HEREFORD, GLOUCESTER AND WORCESTER, THE FESTIVAL HOSTS AN ANNUAL, WEEK-LONG, SUMMER PROGRAMME PACKED WITH CONCERTS, SERVICES, RECITALS, MASTERCLASSES, TALKS, THEATRE, EXHIBITIONS AND LOTS MORE. THE BIRTH OF LUDLOW GIN IS EMBEDDED IN THIS FESTIVAL AND WE ARE THRILLED TO BE BACK WITH OUR LUDLOW GIN BAR THIS WEEKEND, SERVING UP THE VERY BEST PHILHARMONIA G&TS TO ALL THOSE ATTENDING.
The Philharmonia Orchestra is something of a national treasure, and one with which I’ve hand first-hand experience over many years.
Since 2011the Philharmonia has been the resident orchestra at the Three Choirs Festival, which means that every three years the orchestra spends a week performing in Hereford, my adopted home for the last 20 years. My husband Peter is organist of Hereford Cathedral and regularly performs with the Philharmonia at these annual festivals. As a former oboe/cor anglais player himself, working as part of such a fine ensemble is one of the highlights of his year.
Our relationship with the Philharmonia deepened during the last Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester in 2019. Ludlow Gin hosted a gin bar in the cathedral close, frequented by concert goers and orchestral players alike. The music world is a small one, and by various close connections it wasn’t long before both parties saw a possible benefit in supporting each other. At a Philharmonia concert in the Royal Festival Hall, the orchestra’s London residence, the idea for a limited-edition gin first came to me.

Our close bond with the orchestra meant that it was therefore perfectly natural to work together on a new gin, a gin for the orchestra, a chance to provide a small but vital contribution to their important work. Did you know that a percentage from all proceeds from the sale of our Philharmonia Gin goes to the orchestra?

Music has an ability to change lives. From the very birth of time humans have gathered together, made music, danced and felt a mutual bond. Over the past 16 months, the online presence of the Philharmonia has brought much needed comfort and connection. If you’re a music aficionado you’ll need no invitation to join us in appreciating this incredible orchestra, whether that be through their online performances, or back together as we will be this weekend. If you’re new to classical music, you’re very welcome – pour yourself a gin, pull up a pew and let us welcome you to a world that can soothe a troubled breast and cheer a broken heart.
If you are heading to Three Choirs Festival, make sure you come and see us. If now, you can follow all the action on the Three Choirs Festival website and social media pages.
